A lock strike plate is a metal plate attached to the door frame and when turning the lock the lock’s bolt slides into a hole in the door frame through the strike plate. The lock strike plate helps strengthen the door by giving the bolt something solid to hold onto.
However there are few factors that can cause the strike plate to become misaligned with the lock. Adding weather stripping can contribute to this problem but even regular usage over time can cause some small misalignment.
