A lock strike plate is a metal plate attached to the door frame and when turning the lock the lock’s bolt slides into a hole in the door frame through the strike plate. The lock strike plate helps strengthen the door by giving the bolt something solid to hold onto.
However there are few factors that can cause the strike plate to become misaligned with the lock. Adding weather stripping can contribute to this problem but even regular usage over time can cause some small misalignment.
A misaligned strike plate can make it quite difficult to unlock the door, disrupt the door frame and reduce the effectiveness of your lock.
How To Adjust Your Door Strike Plate?
- Over time even with a regular use the screws that secure the door strike plate may become loose. This can lead to misalignment. Simply take a screwdriver and tighten those screws a bit and your door strike plate will be realigned and your lock will operate smoothly again.
- To make sure the door strike plate fits correctly one effective approach is to widen the opening in order for the bolt to smoothly move into the door frame.
- Adjustable Strike Plate has oval screw holes that can be easily adjusted and line up with the door latch without having to drill new holes.
